INTERVIEWER-Achieving top slot in the CS examination is no small feat;accept our hearties congratulations on your fantastic performance and splendid success.

PRAKASH-Thank you very much.

IV-Can you recall the exact moment when you realized the importance of civil services?

PRAKASH-It was not a sudden realization.during my graduation I gathered information about the civil services.

IV-Finally, at what point of time did you make up your mind to make career in 'CIVIL SERVICES'?

PRAKASH-During my final year of graduation,i decided to take the civil services exam . but i started preparation from jan 2008.

IV-You must have read IAS toppers interviews n newspapers/magazines; what inspired you the most? any paerticular success story which influenced your journey to this result?

PRAKASH-I was inspired by the success of Mr. Muthyala Raju Revu(AIR-1,CSE'06) and Mr. Supreet Singh Gulati(AIR-2CSE-07)

IV-Was CSE a planned decision or your parent's wish? Had you kept in mind some time frame , for the examination preparation and number of attempts?

PRAKASH-It was a planned decision. i started preparation in JAN. 2008 for 2008 attempt and hoped to succeed in that attempt only. but i had to give another attempt for final selection.

IV-The first step is the most difficult how to prepare? which optionals? what to read? how much to read? many such questions comprehend your mind when you get really seriosly about civil services examination?

PRAKASH- My task for selecting optionals was simple as i have command over electrical engg. and mathematics. for electrical engg. i took advice from Mr. Supreet Singh Gulati's blog about the books and reference materials.
for mathematics i consulted friends who were preparing for this exam. for how much to read, stick to the syllabus prescribed by the UPSC.

IV-Were you confident of your success in this examination and how did you react to this special news?

PRAKASH-Yes, i was confident of my success and result was not much of a surprise.

IV-In how many attempts have you achieved this success? How do you visualize your preparation/previous attempts?

PRAKASH-I achieved this success in second attempt.in my first attempt i fell short of time and ws not able to complete syllabus and revise properly.

IV-Were you preparing for other career opportunities as well simultaneously till you achieved your ultimate goal-career in civil services?

PRAKASH-The challenges, diversity and opportunity for public service which civil service can provide is difficult to be provided by any other job.

IV-While making final choice for optional subjects, what's important and what's not?share your thoughts and opinions.

PRAKASH-As i said earlier i did not have to spend any time on deciding the optionals. but i think that interest and aptitude should be the foremost criteria for deciding the optionals. if you are comfortable in your graduation subject go ahead with it. one should carefully look nat the syllabus, previous years papers and some basic text books oif that subject before deciding.

IV-What were your optional subjects? give the basis of selecting these.

PRAKASH- Prelims: MATHEMATICS
Mains: ELECTICAL ENGG. AND MATHEMATICS.
I decided these subjects as my graduation covers most part of syllabus of both the optional and I have good command over them.

IV-Did you keep the same optional subjects in all your attempts?

PRAKASH-Yes

IV-How did you manage to tackle the negative marking in prelims?

PRAKASH-Leave the question in which I have no idea. If i am able to eliminate some options, then i go for guess.

IV-In your opinion at which Educational Level should one start preparing for Civil Sercives and what should be the minimum period of time required to prepare for Civil Services Examinations?

PRAKASH-One can start preparation during one's graduation. Ideally one should start preparation 1 year before writing Prelims.

IV-What is your opinion regarding the general view that science subjects have better chance to score than humanities?

PRAKASH-Statistics shows that Humanities subjects perform better.

IV-What is the importance medium of examination for exams like CSE?

PRAKASH-I think medium does not matter. Only place where it may matter is regarding collection of material in that language especially GS materials.

IV-Does the educational, financial and demographic status of the family of an aspirant have any impact on the preparation?

PRAKASH-Unfortunately they have an impact, but it can be minimized by dedicated hardwork.
